a gold damascened and chiselled axe, persia 19th c
Axe blade most probably of crucible steel with damascened scrolling foliate decoration, it is also chiselled and engraved with animal images. Top of the head is decorated with a silver ornament with a circle of turquoise, one missing, and what seems to be four tiny pearls. Wooden haft covered with repousse work silver? foil, parts lost. Patinated but good condition. Blade 14.7 cm total 59 cm 19th century
